The short version
- TV Cleaner talks to your TV directly over your home Wi-Fi. The list of apps on your TV, its settings and the backups stay on your phone.
- No account is needed. Signing in is optional and only offered to Pro users.
- Sharing anonymous data to improve the app is opt-in, off by default, and you're asked each time.
- We don't sell your data. TV Cleaner has no ads and uses no analytics or advertising trackers.
1. Local network use
To find and control your TV, the app:
- looks for TVs on your Wi-Fi using the system's network service browser (mDNS / Bonjour) and by checking which devices on your local network answer on the TV debugging port (5555);
- connects to the TV you choose using the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) protocol, over your local network only.
iOS asks for "Local Network" permission for this; Android needs the Wi-Fi state and multicast permissions. Addresses found on your network are used only on your phone and are never uploaded.
To connect, the app creates a security key on your phone. It is kept in the phone's secure storage (Keychain / Keystore). The TV remembers this key when you press "Allow"; it never leaves your phone and TV.
2. What stays on your phone
- The list of apps on each TV, their on/off state, TV settings we change, and a backup taken before the first change. You can export a backup as a file or delete a TV from "My TVs" at any time.
- The history of every change, used for undo and restore.
- Photos you choose for the Pro photo screensaver. They are resized on the phone and copied straight to your TV over your Wi-Fi. They are never uploaded to us.
3. What is sent to our server, and why
| When | What is sent | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Looking up app descriptions | App package names on the TV, TV brand, model, Android version | To show what each app does and whether it's safe to turn off. Not linked to you. |
| Checking Pro and TV slots | A random install ID (or your account ID if you signed in), the TV's ID (android_id, set by the TV) and the TV's name or model | To count TVs per plan (1 free, 3 Pro) and to give the TV its Pro settings. |
| Pro settings for the TV | The TV's ID and the TV home screen's own ID | To create a signed Pro configuration that only works on that TV. The TV home screen may also ask our server for it directly, at most every 6 hours. |
| Weather / calendar (Pro) | The city you typed (no GPS location), country for holidays, the TV's ID | To show weather and holidays on the TV. |
| Photo helper ("I'm stuck") | The photo you take of your TV screen, the setup goal, TV brand/model, app language, your install ID | To tell you which menu item to choose next. See section 4. |
| Optional sign-in (Pro only) | A sign-in token from Apple or Google | To keep Pro and your TVs when you change phone. We receive an account ID and, if you allow it, an email address. |
Like any internet service, our server sees your IP address while it answers a request. We use it only to deliver the answer and to limit abuse, and we don't store it with any of the data above.
4. Photo helper and AI providers
When you use the photo helper, your photo is sent through our server to an AI service. Today that is Anthropic (Claude), with OpenAI as a backup if the first one is unavailable. The service reads the photo and returns one short instruction. [We don't keep the photo after the answer is returned. The AI providers process it under their API terms, which don't allow using API data for training by default.] Please don't photograph anything other than the TV screen.
The first 3 uses are free on each install; after that the photo helper is part of Pro. We count uses with your install ID.
5. Sharing data to improve TV Cleaner (opt-in)
After a successful cleanup the app may ask whether you want to share:
- setup screenshots: images of the TV's own Settings screens, taken by the app on the TV, plus brand, model and Android version. These become setup pictures for other owners of that TV after review;
- an anonymous app report: the list of app package names on the TV, which ones you turned off or back on, and whether the TV worked after a restart.
No names, accounts, Wi-Fi names or IP addresses are included. It's off unless you agree, and you can say no every time. [Retention: kept until reviewed; accepted screenshots are kept as guide images.]
6. Purchases
Subscriptions, the lifetime purchase and tips are handled by the App Store or Google Play. We never see your card details. We receive a receipt that says which plan is active and until when, so we can turn Pro on. See the Terms of Use for the Pro subscription terms.
7. Ads
TV Cleaner has no ads. The app doesn't include any advertising network, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
8. Children
TV Cleaner is not directed at children under 13 [or the age in your country]. The "kids timer" is a feature for parents and doesn't collect data about children.
9. Your choices and rights
- Delete local data: remove a TV in "My TVs", or uninstall the app.
- Server data: contact [support email] to access or delete the data linked to your install ID or account. Signing out in Settings unlinks your account. [Add GDPR/CCPA/Vietnam PDPD wording for the countries you publish in, and a data processing contact.]
10. Changes
We'll update this page and the date above when the app changes what it collects.
